MISSION

PONTO DE CULTURA at ABADÁ-Capoeira (ACSF) is offering FREE classes in Capoeira, Afro-Brazilian Dance, Afro-Brazilian Percussion, Music Production and Portuguese Language to all Brazilians or first generation Brazilians of any age. in projects that bring them close to our culture and language.

Brazilian Masters, Instructors and Artists will be offering free Capoeira, Dance, Music and Portuguese language classes to young Brazilians born or raised in the United States. Using valuable cultural resources, this will be an enriching opportunity to learn.

The mission of the Ponto de Cultura initiative is to rescue and strengthen Brazilian culture within Brazil and Internationally. As "popular" Brazilian culture becomes more globally visible, and as the migration of native Brazilians expands, it is increasingly important to bring awareness to the roots of, and the value of, the diverse cultural expressions innate to Brazil and to the Brazilian Portuguese language. Ponto de Cultura was initiated to help unify Brazilian communities in and outside of Brazil, and to provide these populations with access to resources, which can help Brazilians’ learn, experience, celebrate, and develop new interests and skills around their own culture.

Brazil is a country of many talents. Naturally its people are artists, athletes, musicians, and storytellers. The Ponto de Cultura project hopes to highlight the cultural expressions of this vibrant culture, providing new skills and opportunities to its people in and outside of Brazil. 

ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco (ACSF) was selected to be California's Point of Culture after the evaluation of proposals and portfolios sent to the Ministry of Culture, following Minister Gil's visit to the Bay Area's Brazilian community. ACSF is one of only three sites to be granted this prestigious title in the US, and one of only five outside of Brazil.
